New York Larceny Lawyer
Penal Law Section 155 & 165
Larceny charges in New York, specifically in Nassau, Suffolk, Queens, Manhattan and Brooklyn can range from a simple Petit Larceny such as shoplifting all the way up to the much more serious Grand Larceny.
In determining which section of larceny to charge, the value of the goods alleged to have been stolen is generally what comes into play. Specifically, if you steal any property with a value of under $1,000 (money, clothes, personal items, etc) you will be charged with misdemeanor Petit Larceny. If you steal any property with a value of $1,000 or more (money, cars, clothes, jewelry, etc) you will be charged with Grand Larceny. There are circumstances where one can also be charged with criminal possession of stolen property or even robbery, for taking items from another.
